Shelia Waichman, a long-time resident of the area passed away on Wednesday, November 29, 2017 at the Skilled Nursing Unit of Catskill Regional Medical Center in Harris. She was 91. Shelia was born on August 2, 1926 in Poland.
Shelia arrived in the United States after World War II having lived through much devastation in the Holocaust. She was the founder of the popular Shelia’s Luncheonette in the Bronx which was a staple amongst the community. The late Mayor Koch would often stop in to visit this popular establishment.
Survivors include her son; Herbert, daughter-in-law; Caryn, three grandsons; Robert, Cory, and Mitchell, two granddaughters; Erica and Gwendylynn, as well as great-granddaughter Lilly.
Shelia was pre-deceased by her parents, husband; Phillip and son; Martin.
A graveside service will take place on Friday, December 1, 2017 at 11:00am at the Jewish General Aide Cemetery, Holmes Road, Harris, NY with Rabbi Simcha Zajac officiating.
