Obituary of Boni Barnofsky

It is with great sadness that we announce the loss of a true angel on Earth. Boni Barnofsky, 67, of Monticello, was taken from us suddenly on Sunday, January 7, 2018 in Tampa, Florida. 

Boni was born on July 21, 1950 in Monticello, NY.  She was a lifelong resident of Kiamesha Lake and Monticello.  She graduated from Monticello High School in 1968. 

Boni dedicated the past 20 years of her life to the children and faculty of Benjamin Cosor Elementary School in South Fallsburg, where she worked as a teaching assistant and substitute coordinator.  In addition, she was a longstanding board member of Temple Sholom of Monticello, which she loved dearly. 

Boni is predeceased by her father, Irving (Jimmy) Steinberg. She is survived by her mother, Doris Steinberg of Tampa, Florida with whom she spent her final days.

Boni’s greatest joy in life was spending time with her family. She leaves behind her husband and best friend of 33 years, Michael Barnofsky of Monticello. She will also be dearly missed by her sons, Reed Barnofsky of Monticello and Gavin Schwarz and his wife, Jill, of Simsbury, CT and her three beloved grandchildren, Zakary, Noah and Jenna of Simsbury.

Boni is also survived by her siblings, cousins, friends, and pets all over the world who will miss their guiding light.  Bud, Ava, Ron K., Jackie, Bev, Roe, Rhandye, and so many others were dear to her heart. 

A funeral service will be held on Friday, January 12, 2018 at 11:00 am at Temple Sholom of Monticello, 5 Dillon Road, Monticello, NY 12701. Boni will be laid to rest at the Synagogue Cemetery, South Woods Road, Monticello.
