Obituary of Harold Sussman

HAROLD SUSSMAN LIBERTY, NY and BOCA RATON, FL Harold Sussman, a lifetime area resident and retired attorney, died unexpectedly on Tuesday, April 26, 2005 in Boca Raton, Fl. He was 88 Harold was born on January 16, 1917 in Ferndale, NY the son of Jacob and Anna Barish Sussman. Mr. Sussman was a graduate of Liberty High School and St. Johns University, where he was elected the first Jewish President of the student body, and of St. Johns University Law School. He practiced law for more than fifty years in Liberty, where he also served as Village Attorney from 1950 until 1971, and was Estate Transfer Tax Attorney for New York State. He was also active in many civic organizations; he was a past Grand Exalted Ruler of the Liberty Elks Lodge 1545, a founding member of the Liberty Chapter of Rotary International and a member of both Congregation Ahavath Israel and the Ferndale Synagogue. Harold is survived by his wife of 63 years the former Florence Yeager, his son; Robert and his wife Gayle Sussman, his daughter; Barbara Frogel and her husband Dr. Marvin Frogel, and his grandchildren; Jeffrey, Amy, Rachel Sussman, David Frogel and Nicole Frogel Cohen, and two great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his sisters; Becky Tannenbaum and Yetta Wiener Abramson and Pearl Perlmutter, and by one brother; Moe Sussman. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, April 28, 2005 at 2pm in Congregation Ahavath Israel Synagogue Chestnut St. Liberty, NY. Rabbi Marvin Goldman will officiate. Burial will be in Ahavath Israel Cemetery Hy-San-Na Road Liberty.
