Herman “Hy” Rankell December 25, 1922 – December 15, 2015 Alexandria VA- Formerly of Monticello, NY Herman “Hy” Rankell, a former area resident, passed away on December 15, 2015 at Sunrise Assisted Living in Alexandria VA. He was 92. Hy was born on December 25, 1922 in Philadelphia, PA to the late Isadore and Lillian (Rosenbatt) Rankell. Growing up in Monticello, Hy returned to the area after serving in the United States Army during World War II. He worked at the Concord Hotel for 50 years, where he met and married his beloved wife, Mae Luvisch. He was the loving father of Joanne Fisher (Jeffrey) and Gail Rankell, as well as the cherished grandfather of Ariel Fisher. Hy is further surived by his sister, Florence Handler, and his nieces Robin and Sheryl and nephews Evan and Michael. A graveside service will be held today, Friday December 18, 2015 at 11:00AM at the Cedar Park Cemetery, 735 Forest Avenue, Paramus NJ with Rabbi Saul Wohlberg officiating.
