Obituary of Eric Jay Groper

Eric Jay Groper passed away on June 18, 2016, at the age of 73, after a long battle with Myelofibrosis. Eric was born in Manhattan, NY on March 29, 1943 to Belle and Harry Groper. His father died on Eric’s 13th birthday and his mother lived in Manhattan until the age of 99. Eric’s first job at fifteen was with the NY Public Library on 42nd street. When he was sixteen he started working after school and on weekends at Macy's on 34th Street in Manhattan. Eric was working while attending the competitive and specialized Stuyvesant High School in Manhattan, from which he graduated in 1960. By the time he was nineteen and a sophomore at City College in NYC, he had moved up at Macy's to an Assistant Manager position. Two years later he became the Manager of the Linens Department, a position that he held throughout his years at Brooklyn Law School, where he later earned his law degree. After Eric got married to his former wife, Suzanne, who predeceased him, they moved to Monticello, NY. He went on to establish a large real estate law practice in Monticello for almost 40 years. He was very passionate about his work, his associates and his clients. Eric enjoyed going on frequent visits to Manhattan to Broadway shows. He loved music including Mel Torme, Elton John and concerts at Tanglewood. He had a love of food and enjoyed experiencing new restaurants and shopping for himself and his loved ones. He loved spending time with his family and frequently visited his children and grandchildren in Florida and his sister in New Jersey. Eric is survived by his son, Lorin Groper and his daughter and son-in-law Heather and Albert Geraci; three grandchildren, Adin Groper, and Aria and Stella Geraci; and his sister and brother-in-law Carole and Joel Karasik. He had a huge support system including, his children, his wonderful sister Carole, and many great friends. He was a kind, generous and caring man, loved by all who knew him. A memorial services will be held at a later date. Funeral arrangements were under the direction of the Joseph N. Garlick Funeral Home Inc. Monticello.
