Obituary of Bernard H. "Bernie" Deutsch

It is with a broken heart that we announce the passing of Bernard H. Deutsch on Monday, April 24, 2017 at the age of 64. Bernie was born on April 6, 1953 to the late Harrold and Rose Deutsch, and was the oldest of 3 children.

Bernie was a lifelong resident of the Town of Fallsburg. He was a well-respected and involved member of the community. Memberships include: lifelong-member and Past Chief of the Fallsburg Fire Department, Fire Chiefs Association, Town of Fallsburg representative to the Fire Advisory Board, a founding member of the Fallsburg Library (where he was currently serving as the president of the board,)Board of Elections and the Architectural Review Board. Bernie was also the past captain of the Fallsburg Ambulance Squad, delegate for the Town of Fallsburg Democratic Committee and volunteered at the Fallsburg Food Pantry.

Bernie was retired from the Town of Fallsburg Water Department, and has spent the last few years traveling and enjoying retirement with his wife. He was an avid sports fan and pitched for the Eastern Sullivan Fireman's League.

Survivors include his loving wife, Laurie Burke-Deutsch, stepsons; Josh and Drew Maier, sisters; Donna Haviv and Francine Deutsch, cherished niece; Revi Haviv, beloved nephew; Avi Haviv and his wife, Juliana, as well as many cousins and family friends.

A funeral service will be held on Thursday, April 27, 2017 at 12:00noon at the Joseph N Garlick Funeral Home, 388 Broadway, Monticello, NY 12701 with Rabbi Yakkov Barros officiating. Interment will immediately follow at the Landfield Avenue Synagogue Cemetery, Thompson Road, Monticello.

The family will be sitting Shiva at the home of the Silverman's ( 6 Country Lane, South Fallsburg, NY) Shiva will be observed from 1 pm to 7 pm each day until Tuesday May 2, 2017.

Memorial contributions in Bernie’s name may be made to the Fallsburg Library or the Amyloidosis Foundation.
