Obituary of Dorothy "Dotty" Sandler

Dorothy “Dotty” Sandler of Ellenville passed away on Monday, May 22, 2017. She was 87 years old.

The daughter of the late Solomon and Lilly Rabinowitz, she was born December 14, 1929 in Brooklyn. She is predeceased by her loving husband Sol and her sister Phyllis.

After growing up in Brooklyn, she and her husband relocated to Sullivan and then Ulster Counties, where they began an entrepreneurial career. Owning and operating many successful businesses including The Summit Hotel in So. Fallsburg, The Middletown Motel and the Best Western Inn and Conference Center in Poughkeepsie as well as several concessions at The Nevele Hotel.

She was a member of Congregation Ezrath Israel in Ellenville, Hadassah and the Jewish Seniors of Wawarsing.

Dotty was warm, loving, caring and was adored and loved by all who knew her. She always had a happy and outgoing demeanor.  Interested in the people around her, she loved life, her family and her friends.

Survivors include her daughters, Rhonda Siegel and husband Jack of Ellenville, Elyse Halevah and husband Erez of Park Ridge NJ, her grandchildren, Scott and Cara Siegel, Maren and Scott Lewis, Adam Halevah and fiancé Katy Larson and Jonathan Halevah with Marianna D’Alessandro, and her great-grandchildren, Andrew, Ariella, Javin and Brooke.

A funeral service will be held Wednesday, May 24, 2017 at 12:00 noon at the Congregation Ezrath Israel, 34 Center Street (Rabbi Eisner Square), Ellenville, NY 12428. Burial will immediately follow at the Synagogue Cemetery, Route 209, Wawarsing, NY.

The family will be sitting Shiva Wednesday, May 24th-Friday afternoon May 26th at 70 Church Street, Ellenville, NY 12428 from 11:30 am-3:30 pm with services at 7:00 pm.
