Mrs. Windt was a family friend and my 6th grade teacher. My mother always held Marion in the highest regard, and my father used to say that her late husband, Irwin, was the salt of the earth. One teaching technique I remember was to not finish her sentences, so that the class would fill in the blank and finish them for her. Still remember that to this day, and I am 59!
She had a heart of gold and paid for one of my friends bar mitzvah when his family could not afford it.
I have wonderful memories of 6th grade, including a field trip to New York City to tour the UN, The Museum of Natural History, and the Empire State Building. A glorious day for an 11 year old kid from Liberty!!
In her later years, I remember how active she was in retirement, instrumental in an abundance of community improvement. Feisty and small (but powerful), she was a force of nature. The world is less than it was, now that she has passed. Rest in peace, Mrs. Windt. I think I can safely speak for your students in saying that you made quite an impression on us all.
