Obituary of Jeffrey N. Bowden, MD
Middletown, NY
Jeffrey Bowden, a beloved resident of Middletown, NY, passed away on June 1, 2025, at the age of 71. Born in the Bronx to Donald and Phoebe Kramer Bowden, Jeffrey spent his early years in Brooklyn and Ellenville, NY, surrounded by both immediate, extended family and friends.
From a young age, Jeffrey enjoyed helping out at his father’s deli, working summers as a busboy in the Catskills, enjoying Broadway shows, fishing, and exploring the grounds of his grandparents’ hotel, The Robinhood.
Jeffrey graduated from New York University and earned his medical degree from NYU School of Medicine. He completed his dermatology residency in Miami, Florida, and in 1984 returned to upstate New York to establish his practice in Middletown and Port Jervis. His brilliance, generosity, and deep compassion shaped not only his career but also the lives of countless patients, friends and family. Known affectionately around town simply as “Doc,” Jeffrey was more than a physician—he was a trusted presence, a source of comfort, and a pillar of the community. Caring for others was his calling, and he answered it with humility and devotion.
Outside of work, Jeffrey cherished time with his family. He loved traveling to places near and far—Africa, Peru, Austria, Alaska, Antigua, Lake George, road trips and beyond. He enjoyed ski trips, reading novels before bed, swimming, bowling, and, on special summer evenings, driving his cherished ’57 Chevy for ice cream after Friday night pizza.
Jeffrey is survived by his ex-wife, Jenny; his children, Daniel, Les, and Leah; and his adored grandchildren. He was predeceased by his parents and his sister, Hedy Maris Bowden.
A graveside service to celebrate Jeffrey’s life will be held on Friday, June 6, 2025 at 11:00 AM at Congregation Anshe Tzaydik Cemetery, Route 209 in Wawarsing.
