Obituary of Rita (Slutsky) Helgesen

Ellenville, NY

Rita Helgesen a resident of Ellenville New York, passed away peacefully on the 23rd of June, 2025 at home surrounded by family and friends.  She was 96. The daughter of Joseph and Anna (Yusin) Slutsky, Rita was born on August 17, 1928 in Ellenville New York.

Rita was a lifelong resident of Ellenville attending and graduating high school. She held many jobs and positions during her life. She worked for New York Telephone as an operator, and logistics clerk for 24 years.  She also worked as head cashier at The Nevele Hotel, a patient registration clerk at the Ellenville Hospital.  Up until last year she still worked at The Ellenville Public Library and Museum as an archivist in the museum and unofficial area historian.

Rita is survived by her son Eric Helgesen (Melissa) and grandson Matthew. She is also survived by her brother George Slutsky.

Rita was predeceased by her husband Andrew W. Helgesen and brother Clement Slutsky.

A graveside service will be held on Wednesday, June 25, 2025, at 6:00pm at the Congregation Ezrath Israel Synagogue Cemetery, Route 209 in Wawarsing, with Rabbi Moshe Frank officiating.
