Ethel Green

Obituary of Ethel Green

Woodstock, NY

Ethel Green passed away peacefully on July 15, exactly 2 weeks shy of her 99th birthday. She was a truly remarkable woman. Her first love was the theater, and she designed and painted sets for several opera companies (notably the Lake George Opera Festival in the 60s, and the Bronx Opera in the 80s). She did the same for various plays, including "Awake and Sing" (off-Broadway). In between operatic and other scenic painting assignments she designed textiles.

She moved to Woodstock, NY, from her home in New Jersey in 2012, after the passing of her husband, Eugene Green, to be close to her younger son and family. Even then she continued her stage work, where in 2013 (at the tender age of 86) she created sets for both "Les Miserables" and "Fiddler on the Roof" at the Woodstock Playhouse.

A loving mother and grandmother, she is an inspiration to us all. She will be missed and forever remembered. She is survived by her son Fred and his wife Patty and their daughter Lucy, and by her son Dan, his wife Alicia, and their children Ari and Fiona.

Burial took place privately at the Mt. Lebanon Cemetery, Iselin, NJ.

Arrangements are honorably entrusted to the Joseph N. Garlick Funeral Home - 845-794-7474 or www.josephngarlickfuneralhome.com.
