Obituary of Marvin Neil Newberg Esq.

Rock Hill, NY

Marvin Neil Newberg, of Rock Hill, NY passed away suddenly on July 31, 2025, his 76th birthday, surrounded by his loved ones.

Born and raised in Sullivan County, Marvin was the beloved son of Judge Benjamin Newberg and Barbara Newberg of South Fallsburg. A graduate of Fallsburg High School, Marvin finished undergrad at The Wharton School of Finance at the University of Pennsylvania and then graduated Order of the Coif from Syracuse Law School. He then went on to join his father and brother at Newberg Law Office in Monticello where he served the community he loved for more than 50 years.

An esteemed and well-respected member of the community, Marvin will be remembered for his kind heart, quick wit and sense of humor. He was a champion amateur golfer and kept an active lifestyle consisting of tennis, swimming and other physical activities which connected him with groups of friends he adored. While Marvin enjoyed many wins in his life, his biggest achievement was seen in the passion he had for his family.

Marvin is survived by his loving wife, Janet, with whom he shared 50 wonderful years of marriage; daughter Amanda and her husband Eddie, and their two daughters, Marlowe (8) and Rowan (5); his son Benjamin and his wife Ashleigh and their son Myles (1); brothers Richard and Dennis. He is also survived by many extended family members and friends.

A funeral service will be held on Sunday, August 3, 2025, at 2:00 pm at the Joseph N. Garlick Funeral Home, 388 Broadway, Monticello, NY 12701. Interment will immediately follow at the South Fallsburg Hebrew Association Cemetery, Marsh Road, Glen Wild. 

Marvin's family will be sitting Shiva Monday, August 4, 2025, from 5 pm until 7 pm and again on Tuesday, August 5, 2025 from 5 pm until 7 pm.
