Obituary of Dolores June Seiler
New York, NY
Dolores J. Seiler of New York, NY, passed away peacefully at her home on August 25, 2025, at the age of 94.
The daughter of Lazarus and Blanche Levine of Hurleyville, NY, and a graduate of Fallsburg High School and Syracuse University, Dolores built a life rooted in education, advocacy, and service. She and her husband, Seymour A. Seiler, raised their family in Liberty, NY before relocating to Miami, Florida in the mid-1970s. There, she earned her Juris Doctor from the University of Miami and went on to run a successful general law practice for twelve years, specializing in assisting women facing challenging domestic matters. She also played a key role in managing her husband’s real estate development business.
A lifelong advocate for equality and justice, Dolores was a committed feminist and Democrat. She was active in the Florida Association of Women Lawyers, served as a District Representative on the Florida Democratic Executive Committee, was a delegate at Democratic Conventions, and participated in marches for women’s rights in Washington. She was an early supporter of Gabby Giffords and Mark Kelly in their advocacy against gun violence.
Dolores remained deeply engaged in her community throughout her life—teaching English at community colleges in Miami and New York, tutoring high school students in New York City, and reviving Mah Jongg at the 14th Street Y. She was a devoted member of her book club and enjoyed golf, tennis, bridge, pilates, and tai chi. In her 80s, she joined the Institute of Retired Professionals, continuing her lifelong love of learning.
She and Seymour traveled extensively, and Dolores was thrilled to be able to forge special bonds with each of her grandchildren on unique trips with them around the world.
Dolores was predeceased by her husband of 59 years, Seymour A. Seiler, her sister Ellen Brown and her brother Leslie Levine. She is survived by her daughter Karen and her husband Daniel Stone of Providence, RI and her son Eric and his wife Darcy Bradbury of New York City, six grandchildren, Alexander, Joshua (Jena), and Samuel Stone, and Brad (Abigail Murray), Benjamin (Holly Fisher), and Eleanor Seiler, and two great granddaughters, Evelyn and Naomi Seiler. She is also survived by her in-laws, David Brown of Chevy Chase, MD, and Rebecca Levine of New York, NY, along with numerous nieces and nephews.
Interment will take place in Hurleyville, NY. A memorial service will be held later this fall at The Village Temple in New York City.
Donations in her memory may be made to GIFFORDS.org or Planned Parenthood.
