Obituary of Doris J. Katzoff
Syracuse, NY - Formerly of Lake Huntington, NY
Doris Katzoff, a resident of Syracuse, New York, passed away on Wednesday, December 10, 2025, surrounded by family following a brief illness. She was 87 years old. The daughter of Frank and Joyce Fredenburg, Doris was born on December 7, 1938 at home in Livingston Manor, New York.
Doris was a graduate of Livingston Manor High School where she participated in every sport, was a cheerleader and the prom queen. Following graduation, she got a job at the telephone company as an operator – a job she loved – and eventually took a position at Manor Poultry as a switchboard operator. It was there she met her husband Herb whom she married in 1959. Herb and Doris settled in Lake Huntington, NY where they raised their family. In 1962 they welcomed Rhonda Lee followed by Susan Renay in 1966. Doris continued to work at Manor Poultry as a bookkeeper until the family moved to Syracuse in 1976 when Herb took over Martin and Tennenbaum's Kosher Meat Market. Doris worked alongside Herb in the market until they sold the business in 1990. From there Doris went to work as a bookkeeper for Rothchild Early Childhood Center where she became known as "Nana" to all the kids until her retirement in 2008. Doris enjoyed bowling, Yahtzee, card games, reading, traveling and lunching with friends; but most of all she loved spending time with her children and grandchildren.
Doris is survived by her daughters Rhonda Mason and Susan Sherwood (Bill) and her loving grandchildren Sam Mason, Jake Mason, Molly Sherwood and Liam Sherwood, her sisters Shirley Sherwood and Rose Parks (Dale) as well as many nieces and nephews.
Doris was predeceased by her loving husband Herb, a daughter Rivka, her parents Frank and Joyce and her brother Dick. Her family would like to thank the staff at Upstate University Medical Center ICU for their care and compassion.
A funeral service will be held on Sunday, December 14, 2025 at 11:00am at the Joseph N. Garlick Funeral Home, 388 Broadway, Monticello, NY 12701. Interment will immediately follow at the Jeffersonville Hebrew Congregation Cemetery, Route 52, Youngsville, NY.
