Jan E. Johnson, a resident of the Town of Wallkill, passed away peacefully at home on Saturday, December 13, 2025, following a long and complicated illness.
Jan was an inspiring figure whose life touched the hearts of many. She was a talented music major specializing in voice with a minor in psychology at Ithaca College. She furthered her education with a Music Therapy certification from the University of Miami and earned her master’s in counseling from Assumption College. In addition to her academic achievements, Jan chased her dream and graduated from Maui Mermaid School, reflecting her vibrant and adventurous spirit.
In her professional life, Jan served as a counselor and manager at the University of Massachusetts Worcester’s Child and Adolescent Health Counseling Services. She also worked as a counselor at the Jersey Shore Medical Center and played various roles as a trainer and compliance officer at ARC programs in New York. Her dedication to helping others was evident in every position she held.
An avid hang glider pilot, Jan achieved her Hang 4 and instructor rating, showcasing her adventurous nature. She was a lifelong equestrian who began riding at the age of six and continued to pursue her love of horses well into adulthood, overcoming health obstacles to do so. Jan was known for her unique and thoughtful gift-giving, which often included "interesting" choices that made her presents all the more special.
She adored her home and took great joy in gardening and decorating for the seasons and holidays, finding solace in her cherished sanctuary. Her beloved cat, Moochie, was a constant companion and source of comfort. Despite facing her own health struggles, Jan remained a dedicated and loving wife, caring for her husband with unwavering devotion.
She was a fierce friend, always giving freely of herself and showing unwavering support to those she loved. She leaves behind a legacy of love, kindness, and a commitment to helping others that will be remembered by all who knew her.
Jan will be laid to rest in Holland, MA, with funeral arrangements forthcoming.
