Obituary of Rosalind Iris Gitlin

Port St. Lucie, FL - Formerly of Kiamesha Lake, NY

Rosalind Iris Gitlin (Roz), formerly of Kiamesha Lake, NY and later of Port St. Lucie, passed away peacefully at the age of 83.

Born in Brooklyn on November 2, 1942, Rosalind later moved with her family to Monticello, where she spent most of her life and raised her family. She was a proud graduate of Monticello High School, Class of 1960.

Rosalind married and raised her family in Monticello before later finding lasting love and companionship with Johnny DiGangi in 1977. For many years, the two enjoyed life as snowbirds, traveling back and forth between Monticello and Port St. Lucie. Though she enjoyed her years in Florida, Kiamesha - especially Patio Homes - always remained home in her heart.

Rosalind was known for her humor, strong personality, sharp wit, and welcoming smile. She had strong opinions and was never shy about expressing them. She spent many years working for her brother at the family’s beloved establishment, The Nugget, originally founded by her mother, Goldie. Through both her work and personality, she became a familiar and memorable presence to many throughout the community.

Whether sharing stories at the Patio Homes pool, playing MahJong with friends, gambling at the casino,  enjoying dance nights at the Spanish Lakes clubhouse during her retirement in Port St. Lucie, or reminiscing with others from her years at The Nugget, Rosalind left a lasting impression on those around her and will be deeply missed by all who knew her.

In her final days, Rosalind was surrounded by the people who knew and loved her best, including her son, Marc, and daughter, Riki, along with her grandson Cory and his wife, Arantza, who are expecting a baby girl, granddaughter Lexi and her husband Alex, and her cherished great-grandsons Logan and Mateo. She was also able to share special moments by phone with her granddaughter Kierra, who is expecting a baby girl in the coming weeks, and with her daughter-in-law Stacy, who remained close by her side in spirit during those final days. Rosalind was happy knowing that two more great-granddaughters would soon join the family.

Rosalind was predeceased by her beloved husband, Johnny DiGangi, by her brother, Allen Mendels, mother Goldie Neumann, and Grandmother Minnie Benson.

She is survived by her son, Marc Gitlin, and his wife, Stacy, of Lafayette, Colorado; her daughter, Riki Gitlin Frankel, of Davie, Florida; her grandson, Cory Frankel (Arantza), of Davie, Florida; her granddaughter, Dr. Lexi Frankel and her husband, Alex Garlaschi, of Clemmons, North Carolina; and her granddaughter, Kierra Gitlin (Marshall), of Lafayette, Colorado. She is also survived by her cherished great-grandsons, Mateo and Logan Garlachi, along with two great-granddaughters expected in the coming months.

And true to herself until the end, Roz did things her way.
