My dad and Joe served as Navy buddy's together in WWII. They were stationed in the South Pacific at the epicenter of that theater for two years towards the tail end.
They remained good friends for most of lives and the Slayton's were like family for us.
Condolences to the entire Slayton family.

JOE, was a good-friend, years-ago in the 70's we had a partnership at the Concord Hotel for private family-portraits.i would book the job & Joe would come to the hotel to 'shoot' the 'sitting' in my studio ...also he photographed weddings & bar-mitzvahs for my studio.....Joe was an ARTIST !
My deepest sympathy to JOYCE and the extended family .......as the Scriptures say: "The Hand of GOD has Touched Him" !!!
i will say KADDISH for Joe in my synagogue in Netanya Israel !!!

We were heartbroken to hear the news.
Joe was among the greatest of the greatest generation. He was truly a self made man.
His influence lives on in me, and many others, every day. From Joe I learned the value of hard work, a sound ethical foundation, and optimism and humor. His stories of his adventurous life will live on.
My history with Joe and Joyce started when I was a young teenager, producing proofs of baby pictures in their Hamilton Avenue apartment, before their sons were born! We remained close through the decades.
To Joyce and Joe, who are like family to me: A tribute to a life well lived.

Our condolences to you. I will miss seeing the car with the JOJO license plate around town. We will always remember Jo. After all, he did take our wedding pictures in 1966, and of course my children's and grandchildren's camp pictures were taken by Slayton Studios, along with school pictures.

I worked as JoJo the clown photographing preschools for Joe from 1981-1988. I feel honored to have learned photography from him and am sincerely sad for the Slayton family's loss. We shared a December birthday.
He showed me how a man can become a clown right before my very eyes.
Rest In Peace, Jo-Jo!
