Obituary of Rosalie Provda
Rosalie Provda, 89, of South Fallsburg, passed away on Wednesday, September 6, 2017, in the Skilled Nursing Unit at Catskill Regional Medical Center where she resided for the past few years.
The daughter of William and Anna (Kantrowitz) Penchansky, Rosalie was born in Woodridge, New York, on March 4, 1928, the youngest of four children. She was predeceased by her brothers, Hank, Morris, and Mitch; along with honorary brother, Bob Stapleton.
While growing up in Woodridge, Rosalie was a bit of a tomboy. She actively kept up with her brothers and cousins, even if it meant climbing on rocks behind Stapleton and Penchansky Dairy; her family's business. Rosalie took full advantage of “country life” and enjoyed the special times that the Catskill region offered to its year-round residents.
In 1946, Rosalie married Leo Kaplan and moved to South Fallsburg where they established Kaplan Cabinet Company and raised their family. After Leo’s death in 1976, Rosalie was blessed to meet and marry Irving Provda with whom she shared her golden years.
As an adult, Rosalie continued her love of an extended family and friends, music, reading and travel, along with square dancing. She was a Life member of Fallsburg-Woodridge chapter of Hadassah, Jewish Women International, and an active member of the South Fallsburg Hebrew Association Sisterhood.
She leaves behind her twin daughters Miriam Birmiel and Marilyn (Larry) Winer, and son Irving (Janet) Kaplan, her stepchildren, Alan Provda, Barry Provda, and Susan Provda, and Grandchildren Lauren (Jim) Britton, Wendy Weintraub, Amy (Brian) Naftel, Monique Birmiel, Jayme (Dan) Kaplan-Krutz, and Aaron Kaplan, along with Great-grandchildren Hannah, Alexandra, Benjamin and Naomi Naftel. Rosalie was blessed to have many nieces, nephews, cousins, and good friends who filled her life with joy and are saddened by her loss.
A funeral service will take place on Thursday, September 7, 2017 at 12:00 PM at Joseph N. Garlick Funeral Home Inc, 388 Broadway, Monticello, NY 12701. Internment will follow at the Woodridge Synagogue Cemetery, Marsh Road, Glen Wild, NY.
Shiva observance will take place at the home of Irving and Janet Kaplan, 5131 Main Street, South Fallsburg.
The family would like to extend our heartfelt thanks to Dr. Leidner and the staff of the skilled nursing unit who helped to care for Rosalie with kindness and support.
