Obituary of Eleanor Lederman

Eleanor Lederman, 85, of South Fallsburg, NY died Wednesday, November 20 at Mount Carmel Care Center in Lenox, Massachusetts where she had resided since January 2013. Eleanor was born March 14, 1928 in Hurleyville, NY, the daughter of Isadore & Fannie Cohen. She began work as a legal secretary at the young age of 16 and worked for several law firms in Sullivan County into her early 70's. One of her greatest passions was listening to music and singing. She was a member of the Sweet Adelines for many years and often traveled out of the state for competitions. A long time congregant of Temple Sholom in Monticello, she also sang in the choir. Eleanor loved life, and enjoyed many things including her friends and extended family. She liked to knit and crochet and was an avid reader of silly love stories. Eleanor was a loyal New York Mets fan, and in her later years, she enjoyed going to the Monticello Racino where she would spend endless hours of joy at the penny slot machines. She is survived by three children: Gary Lederman and Susan of Monroe Township, NJ, Bruce Lederman and Dibe of Briarwood, NY and Susan DeMarinis and Shaun of Pittsfield, MA. She is also survived by five grandchildren: Jodi, Ryan, Jamie, Marissa and Jake, and great grandchildren: Cole and Carley. Eleanor was predeceased by her beloved husband of 42 years, Jack "Jake" Lederman, with whom she shared wonderful memories, horseback riding, and sightseeing around the country. She is also predeceased by all seven of her siblings. Funeral services will be held Sunday, November 24, 2013 at 11:00am at the Joseph N. Garlick Funeral Home, 388 Broadway, Monticello, NY. Burial will follow at Workmen’s Circle #281, Marsh Road, Glen Wild, NY. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Eleanor Lederman may be made to the Mount Carmel Care Center, 320 Pittsfield Road, Lenox, MA 01240.
