Shirley Kaufman of Monticello passed away on January 6, 2014 at the Catskill Regional Medical Center Skilled Nursing Unit. The daughter of Samuel Blackman and Sylvia Shapiro Blackman, she was 84 years old.
She is survived by her loving and devoted husband of 64 years, David Kaufman; her daughter Sylvia Kaufman and her husband David Scher of Rockland County, her son Steven B. Kaufman and his wife Paula of Monticello; her grand children Jonathan Samuel Kaufman Scher, Shannon Holland and her fiance Keith Van Kueren, Justin Holland and his wife Aimee, great grand daughter Nessiah Holland; brother Bernard Blackman, stepsisters Joyce Katzman and Myrna Anderman; and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents, her brother Myron Blackman and her step-mother Ann Blackman.
Shirley was a loving wife and devoted mother. Throughout the years Shirley devoted herself to family, community and charity above all else. Her heart and her hand were always extended to those in need, and she was known to all for her kindness, compassion and willingness to listen and console.
Shirley will be missed by her family, many friends, her beloved community and the Landfield Avenue Synagogue, to which she devoted much of her time and attention.

Funeral services will be held at the Joseph N. Garlick Funeral Home, 388 Broadway, Monticello, at 1 pm on Wednesday, January 8. Burial will be in the Landfield Ave Synagogue Cemetery Thompson Rd. Monticello.
Shiva will be observed at the family home, from 1 to 4 pm and 7 to 8 pm Thursday, Sunday and Monday.
