Obituary of Sylvia Markowitz

SYLVIA MARKOWITZ GOSHEN, NY DECEMBER 28, 192~ JUNE 16, 2014 Born on December 28, 1921 to Samuel and Sophie (Chernin )Markowitz, Sylvia was the baby sister to four older brothers. Sylvia lived her entire life in Goshen attending Goshen public schools and graduating from Goshen high school. Having four older brothers it was natural that as a young girl Sylvia enjoyed sports, played on the Goshen softball team and earned her varsity letter as a cheerleader. Her father and mother started the Four Corners Diner and adjoining Mobil gas station in Goshen and it was in these early years that Sylvia honed her business skills. The Four Corners Diner was the future site of the Cloverleaf restaurant that Sylvia, her brother Dave and his wife Sylvia successfully ran for many years. In the early days Sylvia enjoyed family trips to Florida as evidenced by her many mementos. During the war years all the brothers were away fighting while Sylvia worked with Pop at the restaurant. When her Father retired Sylvia and her brother David opened the Cloverleaf restaurant on the site of the original family business. The Cloverleaf became a landmark at the entrance to Goshen Village and was enjoyed by both locals and tourists. This popular spot was run by (sister) Sylvia ,Dave ,(wife) Sylvia the three children Charlie, Michele and Scott and their loyal employees.  It was all hands on deck when a tour bus pulled in. For her other nieces and nephews nothing was more exciting than visiting the restaurant and having Aunt Sylvia make those delicious milkshakes. Upon retirement Sylvia stayed in Goshen enjoying her long-time friends. In 2005 Sylvia moved to Elant in Goshen where her cheerfulness and happy demeanor endeared her to staff and friends. Sylvia is survived by several nieces and nephews, Hillel, Sidney, Lenny and Mindy Markowitz, Scott Markowitz and Michele Reichert and Joel Markowitz. She was pre-deceased by her brothers Al, Nate, Isadore and Dave and nephew Charles. Sylvia's funeral is Thursday, June 19 at 11 AM at Temple Beth Shalom in Florida, NY..
