Obituary of Ann R Karchmer

Ann R. Karchmer (nee Reed) April 6, 1921 - August 9, 2014 Ellenville, NY   Ann Reed Karchmer, 93, of Ellenville NY passed away on Saturday, August 9 2014, in Philadelphia where she had been living for the past 2 years. The daughter of Lyle P. Reed and Ruby M. (Parker), she was born in Buffalo NY on April 6, 1921. She is predeceased by her husband of 68 years, Irwin W. "Mac" Karchmer , her son Michael A., and her sister Jane Piguet. After graduating from East Aurora High School she attended Buffalo State Teachers College where she received her degree in Home Economics Education. While there she met Mac Karchmer who was studying Industrial Arts, and they married on July 3, 1943. They subsequently moved to Georgia while Mac was in the Army Air Corps during World War II. After the war they moved to Buffalo and then to Ellenville NY in 1950. Ann continued to put her education to work by keeping family and house in ship-shape order, and raising two children, Susan G. and Michael. She was a consummate cook and baker who cooked everything from scratch and with love. She participated in the PTA in the Ellenville School District.She also painted and sketched, did needlework and played piano and sang. She displayed these musical talents while performing for many years with the Yentatainers, a group of her friends who played and sang for various functions throughout the Ellenville area. The family belonged to Temple Rodeph Sholom. Ann wrote poetry throughout her entire life and she wanted this to be shared when she passed away: Do not cry for me I'm totally free Think of me when you touch the grass, hear the trees' wind song... May there be love and peace for everyone.   In addition to her daughter, Ann is survived by her sister-in-law, Paula Karchmer (Leventhal) and many nieces and nephews. The memorial service and burial will take place on Tuesday, August 12 at 11:30 AM, at the Temple Rodeph Sholom Cemetery on Otens Road at Roberts Road in Warwarsing. (Take US Route 209 to Oak Ridge Road to Otens Road.) Flowers are gratefully declined. Memorials may be made to the charity of your choice.
