Obituary of Joseph Rozman

JOSEPH ROZMAN ELLENVILLE, NY February 7, 1920 ~ September 27, 2014 Joseph Rozman passed away peacefully at Albany Medical Center Hospital on September 27, 2014. He was born in Brooklyn, New York in 1920 to Regina and Daniel Rozman. He was a graduate of Brooklyn Tech HS, Dayton Automotive Academy, and received an Electrical Engineering Degree from RCA Radio and Television Institute. Before World War II he was employed as a civilian at Fort Bragg, NC. He was drafted in the first thousand men, stationed in the United States Army at Fort Monmouth, NJ and taught electronics until he was sent overseas to the Pacific Theater of Operations from 1941 until 1945, serving in the Signal Corps and eventually in Japan as one of the first Americans after the surrender 1942, he married Blossom Abramson and subsequently had two children. After the war, he left Brooklyn for South Fallsburg and helped his father at the Riverdale Hotel. He then joined Channel Master Corp as one of its first employees, serving in a number of capacities and eventually as head of Quality Control. He was a founder and President of Channel Master Employees Credit Union and volunteered for many years at Congregation Ezrath Israel. He received many awards including the Synagogue’s Volunteer of the Year, and the Torch of Liberty from the Anti-Defamation League of B’nai Brith. He was Quartermaster and Treasurer of the Jewish War Veterans Ellenville Post #341 and on the Executive Boards of Jewish Star, B’nai Brith, NE Chapter of the Anti-Defamation League, and United Jewish Appeal, as well as a member of the Monticello Stamp Club. He was a charter member of the Statue of Liberty-Ellis Island Foundation. The award he received from the United Jewish Appeal was for many years of devotion to the State of Israel. When The Jewish Star newspaper was established for the Catskill Region, he served on the Executive Board. He is survived by his wife of 72 years, Blossom Rozman; a son, Ronald Rozman and his companion Deborah McMenemy; a daughter, Vicki Caston and her husband Albert Caston; his grandchildren; Carla Rozman, Michael Rozman and his wife Lindsay, Bobby Wasserman and his wife Leah and Scott Wasserman; and by devoted sisters-in-law Deborah Heller and Marilyn Rozman. Great grandchildren are Zachary Leo Wasserman and Ellie and Sammy Winkler. He is also survived by many wonderful nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by his brother Leo Rozman and brother-in-law Dr. David Abramson and wife Ruth as well as a daughter-in-law Susan Rozman. Funeral services will be held today, Monday September 29, 2014 at 1pm in Congregation Ezrath Israel Rabbi Eisner Square Ellenville, NY. Burial with military honors in the Ezrath Israel Cemetery Route 209 Wawarsing.
