Obituary of Robert E. Ratner

Robert E. Ratner December 10, 1928 - October 3, 2012 Loch Sheldrake, NY Robert E. Ratner 83 of Loch Sheldrake NY passed into eternity in the loving arms of his wife Thelma on October 3rd, 2012. Survived by his wife at home, his daughters Melinda Cali and son in law Jeff Cali of Liberty NY, and Andrea Wasiluk of Warwick NY, (predeceased by his son-in-law: Alex Wasiluk); and his five grandchildren; David Cali, Nicole Cali, Cheyenne Cali, Zachary Wasiluk, and Roxanne Wasiluk. Bob was born the only child of Dorothy and Albert Ratner on 12/10/28 in Brooklyn, NY. He was raised on Brighton Beach where he later brought his wife and children to share his joys of the sea and sand. He was an engineering graduate of the City College of New York where he graduated third in his class. Retired Project Engineer Bob was a master of ornamental and structural steel design. He was proud to show his family his extensive work at The Museum of Modern Art, Co-Op City, Lefrak City, and hundreds of other projects throughout the tri-state area. He was a 33rd degree Brother Mason and Shriner of the South Fallsburg Mason Lodge 1122. Bob was a lover of music and the arts and an avid art collector, artist and international traveler. He was a foody before it was fashionable, a connoisseur of fine food and drink, and an amazing cook. However, his favorite thing was to feed chocolate cake to his grandchildren. Always quick with a joke and the life of a party Bob had a charismatic personality. He had a fantastic attitude, never held a grudge, and assumed you wouldn't either. Bob left a lasting impression on anyone he met and made friends wherever he went. More than anything he loved his wife Thelma and never let a day go by without telling her so. His love for his wife, children, and grandchildren is his greatest legacy. The funeral will be held at Joseph N. Garlick Funeral Home 388 Broadway, Monticello NY (845)794-7474 on Sunday October 7th, 2012 at 11am. He will be laid to rest at Evergreen Cemetery Bethel, NY.
