Obituary of Edith Shulman

Edith Shulman, 96 Monticello, NY August 10, 1912 - May 4, 2009 Edith Shulman, a longtime resident of Monticello, died Monday, May 4, 2009 at the Catskill Regional Medical Center in Harris. She was 96. The daughter of the late Harry Schindelheim and Fannie Schlanger Schindelheim, she was born August 10, 1912 in Brooklyn. She was the widow of Leo Shulman who predeceased her on April 20, 1983. Edith attended New York University and then entered the business world working at Macy's Department Store in Manhattan. After she and her husband moved from Brooklyn to Liberty, she helped establish, and became the buyer for the women's wear department of Sullivan's Department Store in Liberty. She was a member of the Landfield Avenue Synagogue in Monticello. An avid computer buff, throughout her life she spent countless hours in the loving care and maintenance of the grounds of her homes. She is survived by a daughter: Stephanie Heigh & her husband Robert of Monticello; a son: Marc Shulman of Monticello; her grandchildren: Cheryl Faith Taylor, Randi Ackerman, Rabbi Moshe Heigh, Alyssa Shulman and Neil Shulman; and many great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Graveside services and burial were held privately on Monday, May 4 at the Landfield Avenue Synagogue Cemetery in Monticello with Rabbi Ben Zion Chanowitz officiating. Shiva is being held at at the home of Marc Shulman, 11 Emily Street in Monticello thru Sunday am. Memorial contributions can be made to the Landfield Avenue Synagogue, the Hebrew Day School of Sullivan and Ulster Counties, or the Hebrew Day School of Cincinnati.
