Obituary of Herman Mednick

Herman (HY) Mednick, passed away March 23, 2013 at the age of 87. Hy formerly of Woodridge, NY was a resident of Boynton Beach, FL, with his significant other, Rita Goldman. Hy was one of ten children, the son of Celia & Louis Mednick. He was born September 12, 1925 in Woodridge, NY. His fondness for the Catskills of his youth never left him. His Yiddish was fluent. Hy was passionate about basketball, cooking, politics, biographies and the Sunday Times Crossword puzzle. Hy was a WWII veteran and a Purple Heart recipient. Hy had a long career in the automotive industry, working several decades in Culver City, CA. Before heading west, he owned a hardware store and auto dealership in Monticello. He is survived by, Ms. Goldman; three sisters: Shirley Kantrowitz, Doty Wilson and Toby Schneider; one brother: Phil Mednick; his two sons: Kevin Mednick, of Delmar, NY and Marc Mednick, of Warwick, NY; five grandchildren: Christina. Aaron, Rachel, Sarah and Leah; along with two great grandchildren: Lucy and Leo. Funeral services will be held today March 29, 2013 at 11am at the Joseph N. Garlick Funeral Home, 388 Broadway, Monticello. Burial will follow at Congregation Ohave Shalom Cemetery, Marsh Road, Glen Wild, NY. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Joseph N.
