Etta Frenkel Hand, 87 January 11, 1923 - April 19, 2010 Delray Beach, FL & Liberty, NY Etta Frenkel Hand, 87, a resident of Delray Beach, FL & Liberty, NY passed away from diabetes-related cardiac disease on April 19, 2010. Born in Hungary, Mrs. Hand arrived in the U.S. in 1949 with her husband Henryk (died 1996), a holocaust survivor she met in Germany, and their son. Formally trained in Europe in sewing and clothes-making, the Hands opened a tailoring shop in Liberty that same year. Hand Tailors evolved into a men's haberdashery and closed in 1989 when they decided to spend more time in Florida. A survivor of Auschwitz and Dachau, Etta was a member of the American Gathering of Holocaust Survivors and Their Descendents and a Life Member of Hadassah. For 61 years she was a devoted member of the Congregation Ahavath Israel in Liberty. She is survived by her sister, Aurora Genuth; a son, Michael Hand; a daughter, Rosalie Hand; a daughter-in-law, Debra Reichard; granddaughters, Wendi Gapczynski and Traci Piccirillo; great-grandchildren; Thomas Thorne, Troy & Sydni Gapczynski and Samantha Piccirillo. A graveside service will be held on Friday, April 23, 2010 at 11:00am at the Ahavath Israel Cemetery, Ha-Sa-Na Rd., Liberty, NY, with Rabbi Ben Zion Chanowitz officiating. Memorial contributions can be made to Congregation Ahavath Israel, 39 Chestnut Street, Liberty, NY 12754. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Joseph N.
