Obituary of Gerald S. Burday

Dr. Gerald S. Burday, the Clinical Director for the Delaware County ARC, died Thursday, July 7, 2011 at his home in Monticello. He was 78. The son of the late Franklin Burday and Pauline Savetsky Burday, he was born December 1, 1932 in the Bronx. He was the widower of Phyllis Ruth Burday who predeceased him in 1994. A veteran of the United States Army serving from 1956-1958, Jerry went on to become a major contributor in the mental health communities of Sullivan and Delaware Counties. In 1997 he was the first recipient of the annual ARC Professional Award, which has since been named the Dr. Gerald Burday Professional Excellence Award in his honor. He is survived by his three daughters: Laura Burday Bellantoni of Rock Hill, Rachel Shapiro & her husband David of New York City and Sabrina Burday of Middletown; two grandsons: William and James; a brother: Seymour Burday of Thalamus, MA; and a sister-in-law: Linda Hull of Monticello. . Funeral services will be held on Sunday, July 10 at 11:00am at the Joseph N. Garlick Funeral Home on 388 Broadway in Monticello. Burial will follow at Temple Sholom Cemetery in Monticello. Immediately following the burial, Shiva will begin at the home of Laura Burday Bellantoni in Rock Hill and continue from Monday until Wednesday beginning at 4:00 each day.
