Obituary of Jennie Scher

Jennie Scher, 99, of Albany NY passed away peacefully at home with her family at her side on Tuesday, February 18th, 2014. Born in Glace Bay, Nova Scotia, Canada, she was the daughter of the late Morris and Gertrude (Dubinsky) Rukasin. Jennie resided for 45 years in Ellenville, NY working with her husband at the Fallsview Hotel in Ellenville. She was an active member of Congregation Ezrath Israel in Ellenville and was a lifetime member of Hadassah. Jennie enjoyed a simple life and will be sadly missed by family and friends. Jennie lived for the last 15 years at Ohav Sholom apartments in Albany, NY until recently residing with her son and his family in Troy, New York. Jennie is survived by a son; Mayer, his wife, Cheryl; two grandchildren: Leah and Zachary. She is also survived by a niece, Rhoda (Paul) Smith, and three nephews: Irwin (Alydia) Claener, Joel Claener and Steven Rukasin. She also had several great nieces and nephews. She was predeceased in death by her husband, Sidney 30 years ago, and her sisters: Celia and Sophie, and a brother Ruby. Her graveside service will be held Thursday, February 20, 2014 at 3pm at the Ezrath Israel Cemetery in Wawarsing, NY Friends and family are invited to spend time with the family at their home in Troy, NY on Saturday, February 22nd from 1-4.
