Obituary of Morton Turick

MORTON TURICK April 14, 1934 - April 7, 2014 Monticello, NY Morty passed away Monday, April 7, 2014, just seven days shy of a young 80. He was an outspoken man, who felt that a person's word was representive of their character and if a person's word was no good neither were they; he could spot them phonies 100 yards away. He often said he wasn't ready to die because he hadn't pissed off enough people yet. Unfortunately he insulted many by the way he spoke, always straight forward, speaking the truth. Morty was a straight shooter - if he liked you he would go to the end of the world for you. Morty wore many hats in his life, always working a minimum of two jobs - he told us whenever we had troubles if we were busy working we wouldn't have time for troubles. He said when you die you can count your friends on one hand and most likely have fingers left over. He was an active past master of the Masons and dedicated 40 plus years, also a kalurah shriner. He poured many a drink over 25 plus years as owner/ bartender of the Perfecta Bar, always offering to take patrons home who had consumed one too many, or offer up his couch. His love of motorcycles and cars made many of great memories that will live on for generations to come. He will be deeply missed but not forgotten. He was predeceased by his daughter, Sherry; brother, Benjamin; mom and dad, Celia and Louis. Morton is survived by his loving and caring sweetheart, Susan Spahtr (who dedicated to all Morton's last days during his pain and suffering with his battle with cancer); his two sons: David and Louis; daughter, Marnee and grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and many adopted people.  RIP  POP.  His Funeral Service will be held today, Tuesday, April 8 at 12 noon at the Joseph N. Garlick Funeral Home, 388 Broadway in Monticello. Interment will follow at the Jewish General Aid Cemetery in Harris. Arrangements are under the direction of the Joseph N. Garlick Funeral Home of Monticello; for additional information please visit www.josephngarlickfuneralhome.com
