Obituary of Hannah Lebed
HANNAH LEBED
June 12, 1925 - September 14, 2014
Naponach, NY
Hannah was born in Woodridge, NY and spent much of her adult life in Woodbourne, NY. In the early '70s, Hannah became a resident of the New Horizons community, an organization whose founders wanted to create services that would provide homes and the reasonable assurances of lifetime care for its residents. The founders wanted to give people with disabilities opportunities to build friendships and establish relationships in their communities.
Hannah spent many years in the loving community of Mountain View in Naponoch. Recently wheelchair bound, Hannah moved to Unionvale, a supportive, caring community within the New Horizons network that was more suited to her physical needs.
Hannah made strong friendships with both the other residents and the many wonderful caregivers at New Horizons. Her family is in awe of the amazing care given to Hannah up to and including on the day she died at the age of 89.
Hannah was a gentle soul who loved animals, especially her cat, Midnight. She enjoyed doing needlework and working in the Ellenville Workshop. Most of all, Hannah enjoyed being in the company of people, any and all.
She was predeceased by her parents, Samuel and Becky Lebed; her brother and sister-in-law, Meyer and Irene Lebed and her nephew, Gerald Lebed. She is survived by her devoted nephew, Richard Lebed and her nieces, Ruth Lebed and Nancy Lebed Berry as well as her great niece, Becky Berry and great nephew, Alexander (Lex) Rofes.
Graveside funeral services will be held Thursday, September 18, 2014 at 1:30 p.m. in the Woodburne Synagogue Cemetery, Marsh Rd., Glen Wild, NY.
