WHITE LAKE, NY
Julius Cohen, a lifetime area resident and businessman died on Saturday, May 14, 2005 at home in White Lake. He was 79.
Julius was born on December 20, 1925 in Hurleyville, NY the son of the late Isidore and Fannie Krinsky Cohen. He grew up with the family business, the Columbia Star House in Hurleyville, along with his brothers and sisters. He attended school in Hurleyville and was a World War II Army Veteran.
He was a Real Estate Broker, Investor and developer and a Partner in the Gersten-Hillman Insurance Agency in Monticello, and Monticello Black Top Corp. His business career spanned over Fifty Years. He was the managing partner in the former Patio Motel in Monticello with his sister the late Lillian Benmosche. He was also the President and a partner in the former Monticello Gas & Oil Company.
Julie was one of the founding members, along with his wife Audrey, of Temple Sholom in Monticello. He was a Charter member of the Monticello ELKS Lodge 1544, as well as a member of the Sullivan County Board of Realtors, the Sullivan County Independent Insurance Agents Association, the Sullivan County Community College Foundation Board and the Finance Committee of CRC. Julie quietly lent his expertise and help to many, and he was honored by the Community Resource Center in 1991 as Businessperson of the Year.
He is survived by his wife of fifty six years, Audrey Cohen at home, his Son and Daughter-In-Law; Jerry and Sondra Cohen of South Fallsburg, his Daughter and Son-In-Law; Stacy and Dr. Monte Sachs of White Lake, his sister; Eleanor Lederman of Monticello and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was predeceased by his brothers; Abe and Sam Cohen and his sisters; Rose Ingber, Lillian Benmosche, Martha Gold and Frieda Devans.
Graveside funeral services will be held today, Monday, May 16, 2005 at 2pm in Temple Sholom Cemetery on South Woods Dr. in Monticello. Rabbi Ben Zion Chanowitz will officiate, along with Cantor Michael Sturm.
Friends and family are invited to the Home of Stacy Cohen-Sachs immediately following services.
