Obituary of Mortimer J “Mordechi Yosaf” Horo
MORTIMER J. HOROWITZ
ELLENVILLE, NY
Mortimer J. Horowitz, the former owner and operator along with his late wife Helen Drucker Horowitz, of the Melbourne Hotel on Briggs Highway in Ellenville and a former supervisory Masgiach for the Concord Resort Hotel in Kiamesha Lake overseeing the hotels Kashruth, died on Thursday, May 26, 2005 in Kingston Hospital. He was 85.
Mort was born in Brooklyn on June 10, 1919 the son of Max and Bertha Hauser Horowitz. He was a World War II Army Air Corps Veteran, and a member of Congregation Ezrath Israel in Ellenville, and a member of Jewish War Veterans.
He is survived by his wife Rita Freedman Zeides Horowitz at home in Ellenville, his son; Jeffry Horowitz of South Nyack, his daughters; Karen Aaron Braverman of Teaneck, NJ and Paula Weisfield of Brooklyn, his ten grandchildren and thirteen great grandchildren.
Funeral services were held on Thursday, May 26, 2005 at 4pm in Congregation Ezrath Israel Synagogue, Rabbi Eisner Square Ellenville. Rabbi Moshe Frank officiated. Burial was in Ezrath Israel Cemetery Route 209 Wawarsing.
Shiva will be observed from Thursday thru Wednesday at 9 Westwood Ave Ellenville, Jeffry will be observing Shiva at his residence in South Nyack from Friday thru Wednesday, Paula will be observing Shiva at her home in Brooklyn.
