Obituary of Rhoda Ballan

RHODA BALLAN Ellenville, NY Rhoda Ballan lost her bout with cancer on August 21, 2006 in Chevy Chase, MD. She was born in NYC on January 9, 1924 the daughter of William and Lena Targove. She always had a smile and a song for everyone wherever she went. She spent her lifetime helping others without any thought of compensation. She was a Brownie Troop Leader, always active or an officer in the many organizations to which she belonged such as PTA, Hadassah, ORT and Sisterhoods of the synagogues which she attended during her lifetime, Her beautiful voice opened meetings of many such groups with songs to get people in a good mood. JWV was grateful for her renditions of the songs of the several US military services. With some of her friends, they formed a guitar group, The Yentatainers, and performed at various nursing homes, hospitals and the like. Always as volunteers they had to maintain their amateur standing. Rhoda is survived by her husband of 60 years, Alex, a son, Barry and his wife Shelli, a daughter, Tracey Rattner and her husband Steven, her grandchildren; Marissa, Brian, Michelle and Jaclyn and her step grandchildren; Jennifer and Lindsay Abramowitz. Funeral services will be held today, Wednesday, August 23, 2006 at 11AM in Congragtion Ezrath Israel Synagogue, Rabbi Eisner Square, Ellenville, NY. Rabbi Moshe Frank will officiate. Burial will be in Ezrath Israel Cemetery Route 209 Wawarsing, NY.
