Obituary of David Proyect
David Proyect, a lifelong resident of Woodridge, NY and owner and operator of Proyect Construction Company, passed away peacefully in Florida. He was 92. The son of the late Lewis Proyect and Sara Shatz Proyect, he was born on May 26, 1920 in Woodridge, NY. When you drive throughout Sullivan County you will surely see a home or building that was built by David Proyect Construction Co. His work ethic was unmatched and the products of his efforts always showed. David served his country proudly during World War II. He was a Platoon Sergeant and fought in the "Battle of The Bulge". He was awarded a Purple Heart, Bronze Star, Good Conduct Medal and numerous unit citations. David was a well respected part of the Woodridge and surrounding communities. He was known and liked by all through his dedicated service to countless organizations which he was a part of. He was a 65-year member of the Woodridge Fire Department, having served as past chief, past president and past treasurer. He was also a charter member of the Woodridge Volunteer Ambulance Corp, Village of Woodridge Trustee, Village of Woodridge Deputy Mayor for 16 years, Member of Kiwanis, 3rd degree Master Mason and member of the Fallsburg Mason's Lodge #1122, member of the Urban Renewal Committee, Verrazano College Committee, member of the Jewish War Veterans Jesse Brams Post #206, a former member of Woodridge VFW Post and longstanding member of Congregation Ohave Sholem and Workman Circle #281. He is survived by his beloved wife of 71 years, Rebe, at home; his son, Steven Proyect and his wife, Irene; his daughter, Donna Proyect Feldman and her husband, Barry; three sisters: Rebecca, Lottie and Elsie; four grandchildren: Jodi and Jared Proyect, Jessica Mashkevich and Seth Feldman; four great-grandchildren: Tristan and Alex Sherman and Ben and Ellie Mashkevich, and many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, David was predeceased by a sister, Gerty Levitz and three brothers: Jacob, Mike and Bernard Proyect. His funeral service will be held on Wednesday, December 26, 2012 at 11 a.m. at the Congregation Ohave Sholem, Woodridge, NY. There will be a service by the Fallsburg Mason's Lodge #1122 at the Shul. Burial with Military Honors will take place following the service at Workmans Circle #281, Marsh Road, Glen Wild, NY. Arrangements are under the direction of the Joseph N.
