Obituary of Jerome “Jerry” Irving Cohen
JEROME JERRY I. COHEN
FLORIDA, NY AND MIAMI, FLA
JEROME Jerry I COHEN, MD, passed away suddenly on January 14, 2007. He was 68. In addition to being a loving husband and father, Jerry was a truly brilliant and unique individual. He was a surgeon and lawyer, played classical piano, painted, flew a private airplane and was able to build or fix almost anything.
He was born in Philadelphia, PA in 1938. He attended the University of Pennsylvania and subsequently earned his MD from Hahnemann Medical School. After completion of his surgical training, Jerry and his predeceased wife, Patricia (Bricker) (d. 1974) moved to Warwick, NY where he practiced surgery in the surrounding communities. He retired from his medical practice in 1978 in order to spend more time with his children, after which, Jerry moved to New Hampshire. During this time he earned a law degree from Franklin Pierce Law School. Jerrys passions included his family, music, cooking, boating and travel. Although he maintained a home in New Hampshire, Jerry, resided in Miami, FL with his wife and youngest son and spent considerable time in Florida, NY.
Jerry is survived by his wife Robin (Rosenberg); three children: David S. Cohen, Dr. Dorothy (Cohen) Serna, and William A. Cohen, and three grandchildren: Carlos, Patricia Patsy, and Jacob, as well as his sister Ann Pomerantz.
Funeral services will be held at Congregation Beth Shalom in Florida, NY on Thursday, January 18, 2006 at 11:30 am. Burial will be in the Congregation cemetery on Spank Town Road.
