Obituary of Irene Goldstein Asman

IRENE GOLDSTEIN ASMAN MONTICELLO, NY Irene Goldstein Asman, a lifetime Monticello resident, and a former co-owner and operator, together with her sister, Esther G. Strassberg of the former Esther Manor Hotel in Monticello and a retired legal secretary for Goldstein & Goldstein and then Goldstein & Stoloff in Monticello, died on Friday, March 9, 2007 in Livingston, NJ. She was 91. Irene was born and raised in Monticello. She was born on November 4, 1915 the daughter of the late Philip and Dora Goldsmith Goldstein. She was a Licensed Real Estate Broker, a Life member of Hadassah, Life member of the Sisterhood of Landfield Ave Synagogue, Life Member of the Order of the Eastern Star-Revonah-Lincoln Kiamesha Chapter #443, and Life Member of the City of Hope, she was also Past President and member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the Jewish War Veterans Post No. 206, member of Deborah, Jewish Women International, Monticello Senior Citizens, Prime Timers, and member of the Auxiliary of Catskill Regional Medical Center, and an Honorary Member of the New York State Sheriffs Association. She was a former Den Mother of the Cub Scouts of the Boy Scouts of America, and a former secretary to the Board of Directors of the American Red Cross. Her beloved children, son, Sanford J. Asman and his wife Sheryl, and her daughter, Phyllis A. Meltzer and her husband Steven survive Irene. Her adoring grandchildren; Gregory Asman and his wife Kat, Ilyssa Tabor and her husband Matthew, David Asman, Abbey and Lee Meltzer, also survive her. Loving Sister-In-Law to, Shirley Goldstein, Jeanette & Joseph Lachman, Morris Speilfogel, Ida Bisker, and many nieces and nephews. Irene was predeceased by her brothers and sister; Ralph, Ben, Abe, Esther, Nathan, Hyman and Carl. Funeral services will be held today, Sunday, March 11, 2007 at 2pm in the Joseph N. Garlick Funeral Home Inc. 388 Broadway Monticello, NY. Rabbi Ben Zion Chanowitz will officiate. Burial will be in Landfield Ave Synagogue Cemetery Monticello. Funeral arrangements by Joseph N.
