Obituary of Sophie Palley

SOPHIE PALLEY MONTICELLO, NY Sophie Palley, a lifelong resident of Sullivan County, died Sunday, April 22, 2007 at Catskill Regional Medical Center after a short illness. The daughter of Morris and Ida Resnick, Sophie was born April 11, 1919. She was the widow of Charles Palley, a stockbroker, who predeceased her in 1999. Her life paralleled the heyday and the demise of the Catskills as a vital resort area: she was the owner's daughter and then the owner of Resnick's Hotel in Harris. When small family hotels were no longer viable, she turned to finance and sales, working in her husband's brokerage office, later selling real estate. A former member of the Sullivan County Board of Realtors, she was, until 2003, the proprietor of Sophie Palley Realty. Survivors include: a brother, Sanford Resnick of White Plains; a son, Eugene Palley of Monticello, his wife, Anne Raiten Palley, and their children, Brett and Dana Berman; a daughter, Eileen Palley of New York City; and one grandchild, Jordan Davidson of New York City. A private graveside service and burial took place Wednesday, April 25, at Temple Sholom Cemetery under the direction of the Joseph N. Garlick Funeral Home
