Obituary of Harry Effel

Pete Harry Effel passed away peacefully on Saturday, January 12, 2013 at his home in Boynton Beach, Florida with his family beside him. He was 96 years old. Pete was born on March 23, 1916 in the Bronx, N.Y. to Robert and Fannie Effel. Pete attended City College of New York and served his country in the Air Corps during World War II as an aviation mechanic. After serving in the military, Pete learned the heating and air conditioning trade. He and his brother Jack founded a very successful and long running business, Monarch Oil Burner Heating and Air Conditioning, which serviced a large portion of the homes and businesses in Sullivan County. Pete was a noted and respected businessman and was considered an expert in his field. Pete was well known for his good nature, ready smile and quick wit. He had a passion for writing poetry and a vast knowledge of world culture. He was an avid gymnast and boxer and a talented craftsman who enjoyed tinkering and gardening. Pete was predeceased by his parents and his siblings Leon, Eva, Edward, David, Jack, Ruth and his first wife Jean Effel. Pete is survived by his beloved wife of 38 years, Ester Revidi Effel; his sons; Paul Effel & wife, Linda of Grand Isle, VT and Lonnie Peretz of Groton, CT; grandson, Sean Effel and his wife, Susan Brown of Cambridge, MA; granddaughter, Rebecca Effel of Sant Fe, NM; sister-in-law, Leona Effel of Boyton Beach, FL; several nieces and nephews: Adrian and Mike Dollard of Monticello, NY, Fran Sanderlin of Mercedes, TX, Laura and Jack Steiber of Boynton Beach, FL, Dr. Jack and Barbara DeVore of Albany, NY, Risa and John DeVore of Idaho, Vivian and Zadok Zaharani of Israel, Albert Bendanis of Brooklyn, NY, Mati and Fred Weber of Brooklyn, NY and Ester and Dr. David Stein of New York, NY. He is also survived by several great nieces. Services will be held on Thursday, January 17, 2013 at 12:30 p.m. at the Joseph N. Garlick Funeral Home, 388 Broadway, Monticello, NY. Interment will be at the Congregation Anshei Synagogue Cemetery, Marsh Road, Glen Wild, NY. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to The Alzheimer's Association, 3333 Forest Hill Boulevard, West Palm Beach, FL. 33406. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Joseph N.
