Harriet Blank, a retired Administrative and Research Assistant for CBS in New York, and the widow of Bernard Blank, died on Saturday, December 29, 2007 in Mary Manning Walsh Nursing Home in NYC. She was 83.
Harriet was born on May 11, 1924 in Brooklyn, NY the daughter of Louis and Celia Gerber Grell.
She was involved in community service most of her life. She was past president of the Ladies Auxiliary for the Liberty Maimonides Hospital where she began the Candy Stripers. She was also past president of the Liberty Chapter of Hadassah and Sisterhood. She was also very involved in raising money for the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation.
In her later years she attended Hunter College where she graduated Summa Cum Laude. She began working as an administrative assistant and research assistant for CBS in NYC where she worked until she retired.
She is survived by a son, Howard Blank of Brussels, Belgium and a daughter Charlene Jacobi of Bedford, NY. She has 2 grandsons, Ian and Brandon Jacobi and her granddaughter, Jessica Blank. She is also survived by her brother-in-law Robert Blank of Liberty and several nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by a daughter, Shelly Carol, and her husband Bernard.
Funeral services will be held today, Monday, December 31, 2007 at 1pm in Ahavath Israel Synagogue Chestnut St. Liberty, NY. Rabbi Marvin Goldman will officiate. Burial will be in Ahavath Israel Cemetery, Hy-San-Na Rd. Liberty.
Donations in memory of Harriet may be made to Sloan Kettering Memorial Hospital in NYC.
