Irving Sisselman, a former resident of Parksville, NY passed away June 1, 2008 at Sunrise Senior Living, Morris Plains, NJ after a long battle with Parkinsons Disease. He was 87.
He was born August 4, 1920, the son of the late Fred (Lew) Sisselman and Sadie Korman Sisselman, part of six generations of the Sisselman Family living in Parksville, NY.
Irving grew up in Parksville, where he later served as Postmaster. He was a Naval combat veteran of WWII , serving in the South Pacific at the Battles of Saipan, Tinian and Okinawa, where he was awarded the Navy Combat Ribbon. He was also Past Commander of Clarence Hoyt Post VFW in Liberty and Jewish War Veterans. He followed his Fathers footsteps as Commander of the American Legion in Liberty, NY. Irving was a 57 year member and 32nd Degree Mason of the Fallsburg Masonic Lodge, an officer of Parksville Synagogue and Trustee of the Parksville School Board. Upon retirement from the Post Office, Irving completed an advanced degree in Psychology from Nova University in Miami, where he practiced for a short time.
Irving was predeceased by a brother, Murray Sisselman, his first wife, Rose Belle Sisselman, son Stephen Sisselman and Grandsons, Robert and Keith Sisselman.
He is survived by his wife, Gladys of Rockaway, NJ and a sister, Frances Katz of Middletown, NY. Also, daughter Karol Sisselman Scott (Don) of Surprise, Arizona , Judith Sisselman of Parksville, NY and Paula Visco (Frank) of Morris Plains, NJ. He leaves behind several grandchildren, great grandchildren, and nieces and nephews.
Graveside Memorial Services, With Military Honor will be held on Thursday, June 5, 2008 at 1:00pm in the Congregation Teferes Israel Cemetery on Lily Pond Road, in Parksville, NY with Rabbi M. Goldman officiating.
