Lester Samuels of Loch Sheldrake, a retired photographer/dispatcher for the New York City Dept. of Parks and Recreation, died Wednesday, July 30, 2008 at the Catskill Regional Medical Center in Harris. He was 85.
The son of the late Isadore Samuels and Nettie Blume Samuels, he was born April 3, 1923 in Flushing.
A loving husband, father and grandfather, Mr. Samuels was very active, enjoying many sports and dancing. An avid fisherman and motorcyclist, he was also a veteran of the United States Army during World War II and a member of the Loch Sheldrake Seniors.
He is survived by his wife of 60 years: Sunny Katz Samuels, at home; two sons: Larry Samuels & his wife Peggy of Chestertown, MD and Steven Samuels & his wife Linda of Croton-on-Hudson; a daughter: Caren S. Jacques & her husband Peter of Livingston Manor; and six grandchildren: Kathryn, Elizabeth, Allison, Cassie, Paul & Rebecca.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by a brother: Norman Samuels.
Graveside services and burial will be held on Sunday, August 3 at 2:00pm at the Sullivan County Veterans Cemetery, Sunset Lake Road in Liberty.
Shiva will be observed at the family residence on Sunday only, following the interment.
