Obituary of Joseph Katzman

Joe Katzman, Forestburgh, NY May 19, 1915 November 2, 2008 Joe Katzman of Forestburgh, NY, a lifelong resident of Sullivan County, died November 2nd, 2008 at Catskill Regional Medical Center -SNU Nursing Home at Harris, NY. He was 93 years old. . The son of the late Etta & William Katzman, he was born May 19, 1915 in Brownsville, Brooklyn NY. Joe was an honorary member of the Forestburgh Senior Citizens, and past member of Monticello & Fallsburg Masons. Joe graduated from Monticello High School in 1932. He was Co-Captain of the Monticello Football Team. The year he graduated was the last year Monticello High School had a football team. He worked as a lather with his brothers right out of high school. Joe was a business entrepreneur most of his life. He owned a gas station in his early years in New York. Joe worked in the manufacturing and retail clothing business in Brooklyn with his wife Adelines parents, Lena & Jack Kadison. Upon leaving Brooklyn, and building a home in Monticello, Joe continued in business with a clothing Factory Outlet on Pleasant Street and later Joes Factory Outlet on Broadway. He was the proprietor of Joe-n-Addys, a clothing store on Broadway in Monticello. He also managed the Kiamesha Lane Bowling Alley for many years. Joe owned Ideas Unlimited a trophy and plaque business, Prestige Lettering, a sign and silk screening company on Liberty Street in Monticello. Joe was always a person who worked with his hands and loved to be able to make something for the people that came to his store or in his life . He retired and became a snow bird, living six months in Delray Beach, Florida and six months in Forestburgh up until 2003, when his wife of 65 years, Adeline passed away. Joe continued to live in Forestburgh with his son Richard and daughter in law Sarah. Joe will be remembered as a father that was a hard worker all his life, had a great sense of humor, loving personality, and loved his family dearly. His grandchildren and his great grandchildren would light up his life. Joe is survived by his three sons, Richard and his wife, Sarah of Forestburgh, Robert and his wife, Marsha of Saratoga Springs, and Jack and his wife, Margo of Berlin, Maryland; five grandchildren- Michael, his wife Hilary, Karen, her husband Lyle Margolis, Brian his wife Sarah, Adam, his wife Tara, and Linda Katzman, six great grandchildren, Emma, Sam, Jason, Andrew, Brooke and Benjamin and one more great grand-daughter on the way, and several nieces and nephews. Joe was predeceased by his wife, Adeline on September 25, 2003, his two brothers Morris and Abraham, his two sisters Lee and Ida. Friends may call before the service today, Monday, November 3, 2008 from 11AM to 12PM at the Joseph N Garlick Funeral Home, Inc, 388 Broadway, Monticello, NY. A memorial service will be held 12:00 PM at the funeral home. Rabbi David Senter will officiate at the services.
