Francine Zalkin Foster, 55

Francine Zalkin Foster, a beloved first grade teacher, died Monday, February 16, 2009 in Grass Valley, CA after a long, courageous battle with cancer. She was 55.
The daughter of the late Harry Zalkin and Hattie Bodner Zalkin, she was born April 2, 1953 in Liberty, NY.
In addition to teaching, Francine wrote books on pest management for citrus fruit in central California. She climbed the highest point in 45 states, but her favorite place in the world was Switzerland where she would go three weeks at a time, trekking through the Alps. She was also a member of Hadassah and a board member with the Nevada County, CA Democratic Party.
She is survived by her husband: Mark Foster, at home; a brother: Big Max Zalkin of Tampa, FL; four sisters: Roberta Zalkin Yagerman of White Sulphur Springs, Linda Zalkin Komatsu of Tenafly, NJ, Jacqueline Zalkin Fliegner of Baltimore, MD and Amelia Pinky Zalkin of Ashville, NC; and several nieces & nephews.
Her funeral service will be held on Thursday, February 19 at 11:00am at the Congregation Ahavath Israel Synagogue, 39 Chestnut Street in Liberty with Rabbi Marvin Goldman officiating. Interment will follow at the Congregation Ahavath Israel Synagogue Cemetery, Hysana Road in Liberty.
