Obituary of Ethel Lashinsky

Ethel Lashinsky, 81 April 25, 1927 - February 27, 2009 Delray Beach, FL Ethel Lashinsky, beloved wife, mother and grandmother, died Friday, February 27, 2009, at home in Delray Beach, FL, with her family at her side. The daughter of Irving and Rose Dworetzky, she was born on April 25, 1927, in Monticello, NY. Ethel, a retired bookkeeper and office manager, is remembered for her dedication to many community organizations including BPW, past president of Women's Sisterhood of Liberty Street Synagogue, past president of her condo association, and many other clubs and organizations. She was an avid reader and student, earning her AA degree while raising her family and working full time. She later tutored students at Sullivan County Community College in Accounting. Ethel and her husband danced with the Tri-Valley Squares for many years, appearing at parades and celebrations, and dancing across the country, as well as Hawaii. Ethel is survived by her husband of 62 years, Leon Lashinsky; her brother, Harold Dworetzky of Yonkers, NY; her five children, Sandra Lines, of Chicago; Eileen Kantor of Springfield, NJ; Gail Morman O'Neil of Loch Sheldrake, Janet Kaplan of So. Fallsburg, NY, and Michael Lashinsky of Reading, PA; her nine grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held on Sunday, March 1 at 11:30am at the Joseph N. Garlick Funeral Home, 388 Broadway in Monticello with Rabbi Ben Zion Chanowitz officiating. Burial will follow at the Workman Circle Cemetery, Thompson Road in Monticello. The family will be sitting Shiva at the home of Janet and Irving Kaplan in South Fallsburg. Memorial contributions can be made to Hospice by the Sea, 1531 W. Palmetto Park Road, Boca Raton, FL 33486.
