Obituary of Ann Godfrey

Ann Godfrey, a lifelong resident and a longtime businesswoman in Ellenville, died, Sunday, July 26, 2009 at the Achieve Rehabilitation and Nursing Center in Liberty, she was 93. The daughter of the late Samuel Shapiro and Rebecca Cherney Shapiro, Ann was born in Montreal, Canada on September 24, 1915. Along with her late husband, Ann was the owner/operator of numerous local businesses in the Ellenville area, most recently including the Center Street Liquor Store. Ann was an original charter member of the Ellenville Hadassah Chapter, where she served as long time secretary. She was also a member and officer of the local Jewish seniors club in Ellenville. She is survived by her son, Jack Godfrey and his wife Susan, of Virginia Beach, VA. Ann is predeceased by her husband, Alvin Godfrey, her parents, and her brother, Jack Shapiro. Funeral services for Ann will be held on Tuesday, July 28, 2009 at 11:00am at the Ezrath Israel Synagogue with Rabbi Moshe Frank Officiating, burial will follow in the synagogue cemetery, Napanoch. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Joseph N. Garlick Funeral Home of Ellenville.
