Obituary of Arthur Natelson

Arthur "Buckshot" Natelson September 13, 1930 - August 3, 1009 Arthur "Buckshot" Natelson of Woodridge, NY, passed away at his home on August 4, 2009. He was 78 years old. The son of the late Louis Natelson and Freida Wagner Natelson, Arthur was a native of Sullivan County, having been born in Monticello and then living his entire life in the Village of Woodridge. He was a veteran of the Unites States Air Force. He served the Village of Woodridge for six years as a Village Trustee, the last four as a Deputy Mayor. Arthur was a self-employed hay and grain broker, having had a business at Monticello Raceway for the past fifty years. He was a member of the USTA and was extremely active in harness racing. He owned many horses throughout the years, his horses having raced in the OTB Classic and the Little Brown Jug. He was known throughout Sullivan County as an avid hunter, and was a lifetime member of the NRA. He was also a long time member of the Woodridge Kiwanis Club. Arthur's great physical stature could do little to hide his overt sentimentality. He had a great presence that took over a room. He lived for his family. In addition to his parents, Arthur was predeceased by his brother, Herbert McCann. He was also predeceased by the love of his life, his wife Sylvia Natelson in 2004, and his beloved son Louis in 1994. He is survived by his cherished and devoted daughter Barbara Natelson of Bethel, NY, and her long time companion, Kevin Colston. The family would like to extend a special thank you to Hospice of Sullivan and Orange County, and particularly, to his devoted nurse Padma. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, August 6, 2009 at 11:00 am at Joseph N. Garlick Funeral Home in Monticello, NY. Cantor Michael Sturm of Temple Shalom in Monticello will officiate. Burial will follow at the Workmen's Circle Cemetary in Glen Wild, NY. A celebration of Art's life will be held immediately after the burial at Bernie's Holiday Restaurant in Rock Hill, NY. The family requests that memorial contributions in Arthur's name be made to Hospice of Orange & Sullivan County, The American Lung Association or the Hooved Animal Humane Society, 10804 Mcconnell Rd., Woodstock, IL, 60098.
