Obituary of Bernard Jay Mandell

Bernard J. Mandell, 84 Liberty, NY June 23, 1925 - March 11, 2010 Bernard Jay Mandell of Liberty, a retired cab driver from New York City, died Thursday, March 11, 2010 at Good Samaritan Hospital in Suffern. He was 84. The son of the late Ben Mandell and Anna Mirrel Mandell, he was born June 23, 1925 in Brooklyn. A WWII veteran of the United States Navy, Mr. Mandell was also a member of the Hurleyville Synagogue. He is survived by two daughters: Paula Mandell Weinstein & her husband Arnold of East Setauket and Gene Mandell Ross & her husband Joel of Liverpool; a brother: Sol Sapadin of Plainview; four grandchildren: Eric Weinstein, Seth Ross, Alan Ross and Michael Ross; and several nieces and nephews. Graveside funeral services with military honors will be held on Friday, March 12 at 1:00pm at the Hurleyville Synagogue Cemetery, located off Mongaup Road in Hurleyville. The Weinstein and Ross families will sit Shiva at their respective homes.
