Obituary of Dora Brustein

Dora Brustein, 88 Ellenville, NY November 6, 1921 - August 4, 2010 Dora Brustein of Ellenville, entered into rest at Elant at Goshen where she resided since 2004. She was 88 years of age. She leaves behind her beloved children, daughter Susan Straus & her husband Mitch of Loch Sheldrake, and her son, Jerome Brustein & his wife Michelle; her grandchildren: Jason, Jordan and Lauren Brustein of Vestal; her devoted niece: Beverly Shulman & her husband Richard Grabowski, and many other nieces, nephews and cousins. Dora was a registered nurse who never waivered in her love of nursing. She graduated from Brooklyn College in 1947 and then attended Beth Israel Hospital School of Nursing. She was a member of the U.S. Public Health Service Nurse Cadet Corps during World War II. She was a life member of Hadassah, the Ellenville Nurse's Association, the Awosting Pythian Sisters, the Sisterhood of the Congregation Ezrath Israel and the Lioness Club. She retired in 1998 after 36 years in the Ellenville Central Schools. On of Dora's greatest joys outside of her family was to be remembered and recognized by her former students and their families. She was also the co-owner with her husband Herbert, of Brustein's Hotel in Ulster Heights, Ellenville. She was predeceased by her husband: Herbert; her parents: Abram and Sarah; a brother: Harry; and sisters: Irene and Betty. Funeral services will be held on Friday, August 6 at 11:00am at the Congregation Ezrath Israel Synagogue in Ellenville with Rabbi Moshe Frank officiating. Burial will follow at the Ezrath Israel Cemetery in Wawarsing.
