Obituary of William Moskowitz

William Moskowitz was born in Hungary and survived the Holocaust, despite the loss of much of his immediate family and time in a Nazi work camp. Following the Holocaust, Mr. Moskowitz emigrated to Belgium and eventually moved to Israel, where he joined the Israeli Defense Forces. He fought in the Israeli War for Independence and was wounded in battle. He immigrated to the United States in 1952 and married the former Anne Behar, who died in 1997. William Moskowitz, worked as a Concord Hotel waiter from the mid-1950s until the early 60s and again from the mid 70s until the Hotel's demise. He worked for Fallsburgh paper goods distributor, Zackarans in the late 60s before starting a competing business in the early 70s. He also owned stores in Monticello and Loch Sheldrake during the early 70s. He officially retired in 2005. He is survived by his second wife, the former Magdalena Hnilicova and a son, Roy Moskowitz of Staten Island, NY. The funeral will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Tuesday, March 15 at Garlick Funeral home, 388 Broadway Monticello. Shiva will be after the burial at his former home at 82 Liberty Street, Monticello and Wed-Friday and Sunday at the home of Roy and Ann Moskowitz, 193 A Rice Avenue, Staten Island.
